Blog Ads, The Right Way

12.11.2013

Seriously, running ads is a science. It's not just about having them all in the same size/width. When buying an ad spot, consider if people will actually be able to easily spot and click your ad. When selling an ad spot, make sure your advertiser can actually be seen and have decent chances of getting clicks.

Cocorrina and Fernaly have a clean, minimalist and organized ads spot on their sidebar. I wouldn't be afraid of adding my own ad to their sidebar because I know there is a chance my ad will be seen.

I would never pay to run an ad on some blogs sidebars. There are blogs where I can't even tell what those ads are about or where they end and the next section of the sidebar begins. Honestly. I feel  like mine would be just another image in a multitude of colorful images, with unreadable text.

  1. Like you, I prefer a clean, minimal look (the ads with the white base/ black font are simple yet rich) and I agree with your observation. BUT- I think singling out a specific blog as an example is kind of harsh.

    1. Wendy, you're actually right. I'm just not a very sensitive person, so I overlook this kind of details easily.
Plus, there are so many blogs with terrible sidebar ads organization, that it's even unfair to single out a blog. :)

  2. I once did an experiment with $100 to see how much traffic that would really bring me if I used ads on various sites and guess what NOT MUCH lol. I took an add out on Cocorrina for my shop for the reason being like you said it was clean, easy to see and I thought I could get some people to see the new place and I have.

    1. Noor, right? I did the same a couple of times. I see so many ads all over so many blogs. The number of hits I got from these ads were insignificant and SO not worth the money.

  4. Yes absolutely love Corina's simple, minimal ad space (also Latrina of trees and hues :) ) I personally have never paid for an ad space - maybe one day?!

    1. Nahhhh, don't waste your money. :) You're well enough as it is... A magazine spread would do you good, though. =D
