Curious things About Me

10.29.2013

Reading Java Aficionado's post on things to get to know her better, I thought those were actually really great points. Things we don't usually just tell people in any random conversation, much less blog about. So, inspired by her post, I'll share some curiosities about me.

  • I absolutely adore horror movies and I'm totally bummed that I forgot to visit the haunted house on the Halloween party last Saturday! I also love haunted houses, old Goth buildings and all things dark (*insert Edgar Allan Poe's work here*)
  • Although I love all things dark, I'm super scared of ghosts. There, I said it! Man, I really believe in that stuff. I grew up in a very different environment and household -and very aware of Santeria-type of stuff. So, as I told Megan from House of Grays this weekend on Twitter: "I believe in almost anything, really. The world is too weird to be explained easily, anyway". She replied: "You believe in everything...except candy corn" She's great!
  • I love tattoos. I have a few birds on both arms, a big dead tree on my back, two hearts on the ankles. I plan to do many more (my mom will absolutely kill me! She almost died with these).
  • I always had great way with kids, so my mom thought I should open a school or something similar. She then pushed me to study Pedagogy. I just couldn't... So I went with Language Arts, as studying languages is something I love and still do (right now, I study Japanese).
  • My first language is Portuguese. I was born and raised in Brazil and moved to the USA when I was 21 (after college). I still remember my long walks from work to school, in that Rio de Janeiro 90ยบ Summer days. I miss it, but not THAT much.
I love this "getting to know you" chain, so let me know some unique things about you!!!

  1. I adore horror movies as well! My mother was a huge horror movie buff so I was raised on the classics. It's tradition! This is a wonderful blog idea. Glad you shared with us.

    1. Oh, Angel, I'm so gonna visit you one day. And we'll have a nice horror movies marathon. Can't wait to start watching them with my little one -but she's scared of everything (but only 5 years old, so I understand... ).

  3. These are super such super fun facts! My mom was surprisingly a little bit more accepting of my tattoos than my dad. And another thing we have in common, I'm an immigrant too! I moved to the US 8 years ago from the Philippines and my first language is Tagalog (a weird mix of Spanish and other asian languages). Cheers!

    1. Celestine, it's the first time ever I heard about Tagalog. But being a languages and culture lover, I already like it. Must be truly interesting -reminded me of Esperanto!!!
